About

Research on Words

Research on Words, (ROW for short), is a work in progress which began 45 years ago. Worldwide literacy has increased significantly in recent years and adults learning to read find it easier to start reading their own spoken language rather than struggle with a more literary form of the written language.  Learning to read a literary form will be easier once a certain degree of fluency is achieved in reading the vernacular. The translated material on this website is suitable for readers who are beginners as well as readers who have attained a high level of fluency. The completed manuscripts are an initial draft.

Mark’s Account

The author of this short Gospel is unclear. However in the past it has traditionally been accepted that John Mark compiled it when he was in Rome. It is written primarily for a Roman Gentile audience. John Mark accompanied Paul on some of his travels and it is commonly believed that he recorded eye witness accounts of Jesus’ life and teachings as told to him by Simon Peter. Mark would have written his Gospel approximately 20 – 30 years after Jesus’ death. Jesus was crucified in the year CE 33, although some scholars think it may have been a year or two earlier.
